“Jnoub La Beirut/From The South To Beirut/The South Not Beirut”, South Lebanon, 2009
The photographs are part of a book about a small village in Southern Lebanon three years after the war.
The Hezbollah controlled village is located about ten km from the Israeli border and was occupied by the Israeli army until 2000. I tried to capture a certain mood between the aftermath, hope, happiness and fear. Almost every person I show is protected by some kind of border or safety, which expresses my respect for that person, how extraordinarily personal this project was for me and how we will never be able to cross that line to understand what it means to live this life.
